The Road to 2031
Five Cycles, Then the Gathering
The first physical Makaʻi Fest targets 2031 at the Honolulu Civic Center & Kakaʻako — as Skyline reaches Kaʻākaukukui, the Civic Center Station. Until then the fest lives virtually: one produced story cycle a year, archived and carried forward, so the festival opens not as a first attempt but as the culmination of a body of work.
Why 2031
In Person Is the Point
Nothing builds the relationship between residents and visitors more directly than standing on the same ground. That is what the milestone festival is for — and why we hold physical presence for the moment the rail can deliver everyone to it, car-free, at the civic heart of Honolulu.
Every virtual year before it is the runway that earns it: by 2031, the corridor has been narrated end to end, and the gathering begins with five years of stories already told.
